TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire national park is a hidden gem found in Tanzania located about 120 kilometres from Arusha. Tarangire is a unique park compared to other parks. It is found in the northern circuit composed of open plains but as you move down south the area becomes swampy with some trees and open plains. The centre of the park is dominated by the Tarangire River.
One of the things that make Tarangire famous is the number of Elephants found in this park. Tarangire has the highest elephant concentrations in Tanzania. Tarangire National park was named after the River Tarangire. During the dry season animals gather near the Tarangire River to get water and also this river attracts animals from other different places and this makes it an excellent spot for wildlife viewing.
Apart from Elephants you can also see lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, gazelles and also Tarangire have 500 species of birds with different colours and sounds.

Best time to visit
During the dry season (June to October) is the best time to visit Tarangire. This period offers the highest chance of seeing large animals gathered around the Tarangire River. Also animals migrate into the park from surrounding areas making Tarangire surprisingly full of life. During this period weather appears to be sunny and vegetation is thinner which makes a good reason to spot animals.
My experience when I visited Tarangire
Despite being an African, going on safari has never felt the same. Visiting Tarangire felt like I have just entered another world from the busy city life I’m used to. The weather was perfect. I started my journey in the morning all excited to see the natural beauty of the park and wildlife.
Right away I was amazed by how the park was and how alive everything seemed. We passed the Tarangire River filled with fish and various species. I saw elephant resting under the baobab trees. Every time I spotted lions or leopards I felt like screaming for excitement. Watching giraffes feeding on tall trees was breath taking.
I also enjoyed bird watching; the park is a home for many different species flying freely in the sky. It was a great opportunity to learn about animals and the nature at large. I felt indescribable joy being so close to nature and these incredible animals.
At noon we took break under the shade of the baobab trees, eating lunch, sharing stories while planning for our next day adventure.
